What is SLC equivalent in foreign conuntries

The School Leaving Certificate (SLC), the final examination in the secondary school system of Nepal, is equivalent to O-Level UK. The exam is taken after finishing the tenth grade in Nepal.

Australia - Tenth grade, for most Australian states is in the middle of a student's high school education. However, in the Northern Territory, it is the first year of senior school, after high school.

France - The tenth year of schooling in France is known as the Seconde, so called because it is the second last in secondary education. It is the first year of High School ("Lycée")

India - After completion of 10th grade (Standard X or Std. X) the student takes the national board exams or state board exams (similar to SLC). The exam is administered by a central institution to which the school is affiliated to. The central institution prepares question papers and checks the answer sheets. The score in Std. X decides the subject the student can take in Class XI (either Science, Commerce or Arts). Some states in India are in the process of phasing out the board exam.

Israel - the tenth grade usually is the first year of the high school that lasts three years (high school is called Tichon). In some cities like Ramat Gan and Giv'atayim, elementary school ends at 8th Grade and High School starts at 9th Grade.

Italy - The tenth grade is the second year of the high school (called Scuola media superiore or Scuola secondaria di secondo grado). The high school in Italy lasts five years.

Mexico The tenth grade is the beginning of the high school. Similar to Israel's education system, high schools last only three years.

Pakistan - Tenth grade is the final year of high school in Pakistan. Students take the matriculation examinations after tenth grade. The result of matriculation examinations is important to study the subject of choice in eleven and twelve in college. The college determine the eligibility for entrance into universities and higher education.

Spain - The tenth grade is the fourth year of ESO (Educación Secundaria Obligatoria - Obligatory Secondary Education). Fourth ESO is also the last year of Obligatory Education.

Sweden - After ninth grade, Swedish children end their compulsory schooling. The tenth to twelfth grades are taken in schools called 'Gymnasiet'. These schools are significantly divided in terms of abilities and career aims.

What is School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exam ?

In Nepal SLC (School Leaving Certificate) is a very important examination.

SLC exam is taken after passing grade 10 national exam. SLC Examination was started in 1934 after SLC Examination Board was formed in Nepal. SLC can be compared to high school graduation in many foreign countries.

Traditionally, students after SLC used to study Intermediate level which would lead to Bachelors level after 2 years of study. Now, the government is in the process of phasing out Intermediate level in favor of 11 and 12th grade (10+2 system).

SLC plays vital role to secure the future of the students.

The percentage of SLC also plays an important role in getting admitted in further study.
